Marjorie Taylor Greene Escalates Pressure on Speaker Johnson

GOP Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene from Georgia has issued a strong critique of House Speaker Mike Johnson’s leadership in a recent letter to her Republican colleagues on Tuesday, as reported by CNN.

In the letter, shared with CNN, Greene expresses her dissatisfaction with Johnson's leadership and hints at the possibility of seeking support for his removal. While she doesn't specify when or if she plans to initiate a floor vote on Johnson’s ousting, her letter represents a clear escalation of her efforts and signals her determination as lawmakers return to Washington after a recess.

Johnson, in response, has sought to downplay the situation and ease tensions, stating, “I respect Marjorie. She will always have an open door to the speaker’s office. We do have honest differences on strategy sometimes but share the same conservative beliefs.”

Greene's letter outlines a detailed case against Johnson, accusing him of failing to fulfill his campaign promises and violating legislative procedural rules. She also holds him responsible for the potential loss of retiring GOP members, which could impact the House Republican majority.

“Mike Johnson has unfortunately not lived up to a single one of his self-imposed tenets,” Greene wrote in the letter. “He is throwing our own razor-thin majority into chaos by not serving his own GOP conference that elected him.”
