MSNBC’s Joy Reid Departs X After Trump’s Resounding Victory

Progressive MSNBC host Joy Reid has made headlines following President-elect Donald Trump’s decisive win over Vice President Kamala Harris. Reid has opted to delete her X account, though she claims the move is unrelated to Trump’s victory.

Reid, who had 1.9 million followers on the platform, explained her departure in a video, attributing it to the site’s ownership.

“Today I finally did something I’ve been meaning to do for a while,” Reid stated. “The reason for doing it... is because I haven’t been posting for a long time. I just didn’t want to be contributing content once it was purchased by its present owner.”

She elaborated on her reasoning, saying, “Every so often I would use it to just look at news that was trending and what’s happening... but I just realized that’s not really worth it. Because in order to do the news aggregation... you have to wade through a lot of dreck and just abuse and a lot of negativity, and it’s just not worth it.”

Reid’s departure adds to a list of prominent figures leaving X following Harris’s loss and Trump’s announcement that Elon Musk, the platform’s principal owner, would take on a role in reducing government inefficiency.

Reid’s Support for Harris and Criticism of White Women

A staunch supporter of Harris, Reid expressed frustration over the election results during MSNBC’s coverage, attributing the loss to “patriarchy” and white women.

“Black voters came through for Kamala Harris, white women voters did not,” Reid said. “This would be the second opportunity white women in this country have to change the way they interact with the patriarchy.”

Other Departures and Criticism of X Leadership

Reid’s decision mirrors a similar move by former CNN anchor Don Lemon, who left X on Wednesday. Lemon cited concerns over the platform’s leadership, noting Musk’s cancellation of a broadcast deal with him after a tense initial interview.

“As the Washington Post recently reported on X’s decision to change terms, this ‘ensures that such lawsuits will be heard in courthouses that are a hub for conservatives, which experts say could make it easier for X to shield itself from litigation and punish critics,’” Lemon stated. “I think that speaks for itself.”

The Guardian also announced its withdrawal from X, citing the platform’s alleged promotion of “far-right conspiracy theories and racism.”

Trump’s Administration Welcomes Musk and Ramaswamy

In a statement on Tuesday, Trump confirmed that Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy would lead the newly established Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). The department aims to tackle government waste and inefficiency.

“I am pleased to announce that the Great Elon Musk, working in conjunction with American Patriot Vivek Ramaswamy, will lead the Department of Government Efficiency,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.

The acronym “DOGE,” also a reference to a cryptocurrency Musk frequently promotes, reflects the administration’s goal to reduce government bureaucracy, slash unnecessary regulations, and cut excessive spending.

According to Trump, the department is not a traditional agency but will work alongside the White House and Office of Management and Budget to implement structural reforms.

Musk added, “This will send shockwaves through the system, and anyone involved in Government waste, which is a lot of people!”

Trump suggested that the initiative could rival the Manhattan Project in terms of its impact and historical significance.
