Musk Threatens Lawsuit Against Ousted ‘Squad’ Democrat Over TV Remarks

Elon Musk has issued a legal threat against former Rep. Jamaal Bowman, D-N.Y., after Bowman referred to President Donald Trump’s senior adviser as a "Nazi" and a "thief" during a recent CNN segment.

“I’ve had enough. Lawsuit inbound,” Musk posted on X on Friday, responding to a clip of Bowman’s remarks on CNN’s roundtable discussion.

Bowman, who lost his seat in the July 2024 Democratic primary to a centrist pro-Israel opponent, asserted during the panel that the "American people do not trust Elon Musk and Elon Musk is incompetent in his position."

“How do we know? Because they fired tens of thousands of people, was challenged in court. The court said the people have to go back, and now the people are coming back,” Bowman stated on CNN.

“He’s incompetent. He’s a thief. He’s a Nazi. And people don’t trust him,” Bowman declared about Musk.

Bowman is not the only Democrat to level such accusations against Musk. Fellow "Squad" member Rep. Ayanna Pressley, D-Mass., also called Musk a "Nazi nepo baby" in a statement last month.

In October 2023, then-Rep. Bowman surrendered to law enforcement after Washington, D.C.’s district attorney charged him with making a false fire alarm report.

District of Columbia Attorney General Brian Schwalb filed misdemeanor charges against Bowman "after he pulled the fire alarm in a House office building before a vote in late September on a temporary funding package to prevent a government shutdown," as reported by the Daily Caller.

Bowman was cited for violating D.C. codes, with officials stating there was "probable cause to believe that the defendant willfully or knowingly gave a false fire alarm within the District of Columbia," according to the arrest report.

Bowman claimed at the time that he mistakenly believed pulling the alarm would open a door.

“Today as I was rushing to make a vote, I came to a door that is usually open for votes but today would not open,” Bowman explained following the incident, which was caught on video and quickly seized upon by Republicans. “I am embarrassed to admit that I activated the fire alarm, mistakenly thinking it would open the door. I regret this and sincerely apologize for any confusion this caused.”

Rep. Lisa McClain (R-Mich.) had previously introduced a resolution to censure Bowman following his indictment. The measure also sought to strip him of his committee assignments.

“The House of Representatives censures Jamaal Bowman, Representative of the 16th Congressional District of New York, for violating District of Columbia Criminal Code Section 22-1319 by knowingly causing a false alarm of fire in an attempt to obstruct official proceedings of the House,” the resolution states.

“Bowman will forthwith present himself in the well of the House of Representatives for the pronouncement of censure,” it adds, with the announcement to be delivered by then-newly elected House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.).

Bowman faced criticism from both Democrats and Republicans, and his actions resulted in a closed-door meeting with Democratic leader Hakeem Jeffries, another New York representative, after a complaint was lodged with the House Ethics Committee.

“What I did was against D.C. law,” Bowman admitted. “As I said from the very beginning, I was not trying to disrupt any congressional proceedings, I’m glad the investigation yielded that.”

Fox News reported that Bowman reached a plea deal with the DA’s office, agreeing to pay a $1,000 fine and issue a written apology — or have a staff member do so — to the U.S. Capitol Police Department.
