Musk’s DOGE Proposes One Major Cut That Could Save Billions For Americans

Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) is gaining traction with one of its most debated proposals as policymakers seek ways to cut costs and curb government spending.

Vivek Ramaswamy, CEO of Tesla and entrepreneur, has been tasked by President-elect Donald Trump to slash trillions of dollars from the federal budget. This move comes amid skyrocketing U.S. national debt, which has reached an alarming $36.2 trillion—a figure fueled by decades of unchecked spending.

Musk estimates that DOGE could trim $2 trillion from the White House’s current $6.5 trillion budget in the near future. But where these cuts will come from remains a contentious issue. According to The Daily Mail, Musk and Ramaswamy are considering eliminating all taxpayer-funded foreign aid—a move that could have significant global repercussions.

“In fiscal year 2022, the United States allocated approximately $70 billion in foreign aid to support economic development, humanitarian efforts, and other interests. Additionally, since the Russia-Ukraine conflict began in 2022, the U.S. has committed a staggering $175 billion in aid to Ukraine alone,” the outlet reported.

Rep. Ralph Norman (R-S.C.) supported the idea of focusing cuts on foreign aid but maintained that funding for Israel should remain intact.

House Oversight Committee Chair James Comer echoed this sentiment, telling The Daily Mail, “Foreign aid for every country except Israel should be cut.”

Former presidential candidate and longtime advocate for limited government, Ron Paul, voiced his agreement on X: “Here’s a simple task for @DOGE: Eliminate foreign aid! It’s robbing the poor and middle class in the U.S. to benefit the wealthy in other nations, with a hefty cut for intermediaries. Americans don’t want their government borrowing money to fund foreign aid. It’s immoral, unconstitutional, and must stop.”

Musk applauded Paul’s remarks, tweeting, “It would be fantastic to have Ron Paul join the Department of Government Efficiency!”

In alignment with these goals, the House Oversight Committee is creating a new subcommittee to partner with DOGE in its mission to tackle government waste. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) will chair the Delivering on Government Efficiency Subcommittee.

This subcommittee aims to investigate wasteful spending, streamline federal agencies, and identify ways to eliminate inefficiencies and bureaucratic red tape.

Vivek Ramaswamy recently met with Oversight Committee Chair James Comer and Rep. Greene to discuss collaboration between DOGE and the subcommittee.

“A crucial step toward greater government efficiency is exposing inefficiencies to the public,” a spokesperson for Ramaswamy told Fox News Digital. “We’re grateful that the House Oversight Committee has created a subcommittee dedicated to this work and look forward to working together.”

Rep. Comer expressed enthusiasm for the initiative, stating that President-elect Trump’s overwhelming victory reflects a clear mandate to tackle wasteful spending and inflation.

“Taxpayers deserve to see their money used effectively and efficiently,” Comer told Fox News Digital. “The new Subcommittee on Delivering on Government Efficiency will align with the Trump administration’s priorities to eliminate waste, streamline federal operations, and cut red tape that hampers job creation and raises costs for Americans.”

Rep. Greene echoed these sentiments, emphasizing her business background in a post on X. “In the private sector, underperforming employees get fired. In government, inefficiency and unnecessary roles persist, which is unfair to taxpayers. That’s about to change. I’m excited to get to work!”
