Nancy Pelosi Snaps at Reporter Over Simple Question
Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi isn’t eager to discuss her political future as speculation continues about what’s next for the 84-year-old lawmaker.
During a recent event in San Francisco, Pelosi was questioned about facing a primary challenge for her long-held congressional seat, but she quickly dismissed the topic.
A reporter at the event asked whether this would be her final term in office.
“I didn’t come here to talk politics. When I’m in a political arena, I’ll have an answer for you, but that doesn’t worry me one bit,” she reportedly snapped in response.
The exchange took place last week while Pelosi was back in California.
As she was being led away, the former speaker allegedly turned to a staff member and asked, “Why do they always give women the dumb questions?”
Pelosi has been in the headlines for multiple reasons in recent weeks. After suffering a fall in Europe that resulted in an emergency hip replacement, she was seen using a walker on the House floor as she continues her recovery.
Meanwhile, she now faces a primary challenge from a progressive candidate with ties to Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.), according to a recent report.
Saikat Chakrabarti, who previously served as AOC’s chief of staff, has announced his campaign against Pelosi. He cited her efforts to prevent Ocasio-Cortez from securing a key position on the House Oversight Committee as a reason for his decision, Politico reported.
“I respect what Nancy Pelosi has accomplished in her career, but we are living in a totally different America than the one she knew when she entered politics 45 years ago,” Chakrabarti, a 39-year-old former tech worker, posted on X. “America is stuck, and Americans want real solutions that are as big as the problems we face.”
Pelosi, who stepped down as House Speaker in 2022 after nearly two decades in the role, easily secured re-election last year in her heavily Democratic district. Her office has not commented on Chakrabarti’s candidacy.
She has already filed paperwork for a 2026 re-election bid, but she has yet to confirm if she will officially seek another term. State Sen. Scott Wiener has long been seen as a likely candidate if Pelosi decides to retire, while some local analysts believe her daughter, Christine, could also enter the race.
Given San Francisco’s strong Democratic leanings, whoever wins the primary is expected to hold the seat for years to come, according to Politico.

As for Pelosi’s health, she is still recovering from her hip surgery.
“Earlier this morning, Speaker Emerita Pelosi underwent a successful hip replacement and is well on the mend,” spokesperson Ian Krager said in a statement to HuffPost in mid-December.
Krager also noted that the former speaker was “grateful to U.S. military staff at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center at Landstuhl Army Base and medical staff at Hospital Kirchberg in Luxembourg for their excellent care and kindness.”
Meanwhile, scrutiny remains over financial activities tied to Pelosi’s husband, Paul. In recent years, he has faced criticism from both Democrats and Republicans for accumulating tens of millions of dollars in stock market gains while his wife serves in Congress.
