Neil Cavuto Leaving Fox News: Report

Neil Cavuto Leaving Fox News: Report

Host Neil Cavuto, a 28-year veteran of Fox News, is set to announce his departure from the network following Thursday’s broadcast of Your World.

Cavuto’s contract expires at the end of December, and Thursday will mark his final appearance on air.

As reported by Mediaite, “Cavuto is one of the few remaining on-air talents who joined the network at its inception in the late 1990s. A beloved figure at Fox, his decision to leave was not due to any internal conflict. Despite receiving a contract renewal offer, Cavuto declined. Fox had hoped to retain him, but he ultimately opted to move on.”

This departure is part of a broader trend within the cable news industry, where budget constraints have prompted notable journalists to step away rather than accept reduced salaries. While Fox News remains a ratings leader with a robust multi-platform strategy, even the network has felt the impact of these economic shifts.

Cavuto has built a reputation as an independent voice within Fox’s daytime programming, occasionally clashing with President-elect Donald Trump—a dynamic that made him unique within the network. Beyond politics, Cavuto has openly shared his decades-long battle with multiple sclerosis and emerged as a vocal advocate against COVID-19 vaccine denialism after a near-fatal second bout with the virus.

According to Mediaite, Cavuto’s exit is unrelated to his critiques of Trump. Despite occasional disagreements, his programming continued uninterrupted, suggesting that his departure stems solely from personal and professional considerations.

Over his career at Fox, Cavuto hosted 12 hours of weekly programming across multiple shows, including Cavuto: Coast to Coast on Fox Business, Your World, and Cavuto Live on Fox News.

Fox News and Fox Business have announced plans to unveil new programming in 2024. In the interim, Your World will feature a rotation of guest anchors, while Coast to Coast will be rebranded as FOX Business Live, also hosted by alternating anchors.

In a statement to Mediaite, Fox News lauded Cavuto’s legacy:

“Neil Cavuto’s illustrious career has been a master class in journalism, and we’re extremely proud of his incredible 28-year run with FOX News Media. His programs have defined business news and set the standard for the entire industry. We wish him a heartfelt farewell and all the best on his next chapter.”

Cavuto’s occasional criticism of Trump, notably during the 2024 election cycle, drew attention. After the first presidential debate against Vice President Kamala Harris, Cavuto critiqued Trump’s performance on Cavuto: Coast to Coast, describing it as a “decisive loss.”

“He had six prior presidential debates to this one,” Cavuto noted during a segment with The Hill’s Bob Cusack. “But this one, at least in my liking, he decisively lost it. He might have made some very good points about the economy, but it was all over the map.”

The remarks triggered a scathing response from Trump. On his Truth Social platform, Trump posted, “Neil Cavuto, Fox’s Lowest Rated Anchor, is one of the WORST on Television. I actually prefer the losers at CNN and MSDNC!”

Cavuto’s departure marks the end of an era for Fox News, with his contributions leaving an indelible mark on business and political reporting.
