New CNN Poll Reveals Optimism for Trump’s Potential Second Term
The political landscape has shifted significantly since Donald Trump first took office in 2016, including Americans’ sentiments about him returning to the presidency.
As the saying goes, absence can make the heart grow fonder. This seems true for Trump, as a recent CNN poll highlights a shift in public perception of the former president.
The poll, published Thursday, reveals that 60% of Americans believe Trump would do a “very good” or “fairly good” job if elected for another term. Meanwhile, 43% of respondents expect him to perform “fairly poor” or “very poor,” according to The Hill.
“Among respondents, 55 percent approve of the president-elect’s handling of his transition, while 45 percent disapprove. The figures are the same as in the December iteration of the survey,” the report noted.
Additionally, opinions on Trump’s favorability remain split, with 46% expressing a favorable view and 48% unfavorable. Despite Republicans potentially holding power across the House, Senate, and White House, 53% believe this would be “bad” for the nation.
“Another 56 percent said they think a year from today, economic conditions will be either very or somewhat good,” the report added.
A striking 80% of respondents believe Trump will fulfill his pledge to impose tariffs on China, Canada, and Mexico.
A "Badass" Portrait and Star-Studded Inauguration
Trump’s official inauguration portrait has sparked buzz online, with many calling it the most “badass” inauguration photo to date.
Bo Loudon, a close friend of Barron Trump, shared the portrait on social media, describing it as the “most badass photo ever.”
The inauguration ceremony itself is shaping up to be a remarkable event, featuring performances by major stars and appearances by influential CEOs.
“We already know that Carrie Underwood and Lee Greenwood are set to sing at Donald Trump’s inauguration, but they’re not the only country stars who’ll be front and center at the festivities,” CT40 reported.
“Greenwood will also perform at The Make America Great Again Victory Rally, along with Billy Ray Cyrus, Kid Rock, and The Village People. The singers famous for ‘YMCA’ are also on tap for The Liberty Ball, along with Jason Aldean and another surprise guest,” the report continued.
The Commander-in-Chief Ball will feature performances by country music stars Parker McCollum and Rascal Flatts.
Prominent tech leaders, including Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, Mark Zuckerberg, Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai, and Apple CEO Tim Cook, are also expected to attend.
A Controversial Reaction to Carrie Underwood
Not everyone is celebrating the lineup of performers. Carrie Underwood’s participation sparked criticism from The View co-host Joy Behar, who made controversial remarks about the singer.
Former View co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck defended Underwood, saying on X, “[Joy Behar] needs to simmer down off my friend,” before addressing the matter on Fox News.
“I would have loved to have been at that table today. They’ve refused to put anyone there who has a lick of sense,” Hasselbeck remarked.
Underwood, however, expressed gratitude for the opportunity. “I love our country and am honored to have been asked to sing at the Inauguration and to be a small part of this historic event,” she told the Daily Beast, emphasizing her decision was not politically motivated. “I am humbled to answer the call at a time when we must all come together in the spirit of unity and looking to the future.”
While Behar criticized Underwood’s involvement, calling it an effort to “normalize somebody who was a convicted felon,” Hasselbeck firmly rebutted, standing by her friend’s decision.
The event, performers, and accompanying debates underscore the polarized yet impactful nature of Trump’s influence as he eyes a potential second term.
