Obama's Crude Joke About Trump Backfires, Sparks Backlash as Viewers Make Their Opinions Known

I’m not quite there yet, but I’ve noticed that several members of my family have been spending their retirement years doing the things they couldn’t find time for during their working lives.

My mom has become an avid world traveler. My dad got into genealogy. My uncle moved to the mountains of North Carolina to indulge his passion for sports cars. I know others who’ve dedicated their time to their grandkids, tried parasailing, taken up philately, or invested in more expensive pastimes like golf—and even divorce.

As for Barack Obama, it seems he’s spent his retirement years binge-watching “South Park.”

It sounds strange, but that’s the only explanation I can think of for the former president’s tone during his campaign appearances for Vice President Kamala Harris, the current Democratic presidential nominee.

From January 1997, when Obama began his political career in the Illinois state Senate, to January 2017, when he left the White House after two terms, he was known for his calm and composed demeanor. But now that he’s not aiming for any higher office—unless, of course, he’s considering converting to Roman Catholicism and taking a shot at becoming Pope Barack I (as if the Vatican needed to lean any further left)—he seems to be adopting a more juvenile approach.

During those early years, when “South Park” first aired in August 1997, Obama was busy with more important things than watching Stan, Kyle, Kenny, and Cartman find new ways to push the limits of adult-themed animation.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m a fan of “South Park,” but it’s hard to ignore the coincidence between the show’s rise and Obama’s transformation into someone making jokes like this:

Yes, he almost made a joke about Donald Trump changing his own diapers, but stopped just short! Hilarious, right? Or rather, he passed it off as someone else’s crass humor, not his. Har har!

According to the U.K. Daily Mail, this viral moment occurred during Obama’s appearance at the University of Pittsburgh on Thursday night, where he campaigned for Harris in Pennsylvania, one of the most critical swing states.

However, if you’re going to make crude jokes about aging, it might not be the wisest move, considering Obama chose 81-year-old Joe Biden as his running mate and was endorsing him for another term as recently as July.

As one social media user pointed out, “Obama would know about changing diapers. He does for Joe.” And that wasn’t the only jab:

Others commented that Obama should ditch the gross-out humor and address more pressing concerns: “Obama is out of touch with the American people. Their focus is on the cost of living,” one person wrote.

And, naturally, there were those who were offended: “They go low, we go low. Sad that many adults do have to wear and change their own diapers. Really sad that Obama would stoop that low.”

I don’t have any insights into the continence of either 81-year-old Biden or 78-year-old Trump (nor do I want to), but it’s clear that Obama’s verbal continence is slipping as he channels his inner teenager at 63.

Take, for instance, his remarks at the Democratic National Convention, where he made a thinly veiled reference to Donald Trump and “crowd sizes.” Nudge nudge, wink wink.

Yes, we get it. Ha. Ha. Very amusing. Did I mention this was his speech at the Democratic National Convention?

Honestly, the only thing left to complete Obama’s transformation into a “South Park” character would be for him to do a karaoke version of “Blame Canada” on the campaign trail. Or maybe just try being genuinely funny.

Because, let’s face it, “South Park” can actually be funny. This, however, is not.

Maybe it’s time for Obama to take up philately. Just a suggestion, Barack—the potty humor isn’t working out for you.
