Pelosi’s Remarks on Second Assassination Attempt Against Trump Ignite Backlash
Former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) faced intense criticism online following her comments on the second assassination attempt targeting former President Donald Trump in the span of two months.
“There never is a place for political violence of any kind in America. As the investigation into today’s incident continues, let us commend law enforcement for their actions to keep the former President safe from harm,” Pelosi stated.
Her remarks drew immediate anger from Trump supporters and online users, many accusing her and fellow Democrats of fueling hostility towards Trump through their rhetoric, often labeling him a “threat to democracy” and “dangerous” to the country.
“Nancy, you and the Democrats are responsible for this. Your obstruction during J6, your constant attacks against Trump, etc. Hypocrites,” wrote Valentina Gomez, a former Republican candidate for Missouri secretary of state. She added, “This wasn’t an incident, this was an assassination attempt.”
Benny Johnson, a conservative podcaster, expressed his outrage, stating: “What a Democrat did to Trump today was 100x worse than anything any Trump supporter did on January 6th. Yet you call J6 the worst day in American history and today’s assassination attempt an ‘incident’ – Resign.”
Another user posted: “You tore a President’s speech up during his State of the Union speech live for the world to see. You are a large part of the violence against Trump.”
Others expressed similar sentiments, with one commenting, “Same cookie-cutter BS. Stop acting like you care,” while another noted, “It was an assassination attempt. Shame on Nancy Pelosi for downplaying it.”
One more added: “You are pathetic! You don’t care, and you and your party are the ones instigating this violence every single day!!”
In response to the incident, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) announced on Sunday that state law enforcement will be conducting their own investigation into the attempted assassination at his golf course near Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate.
“The State of Florida will be conducting its own investigation regarding the attempted assassination at Trump International Golf Club. The people deserve the truth about the would-be assassin and how he was able to get within 500 yards of the former president and current GOP nominee,” DeSantis posted on the X platform.
As reported by Axios, the FBI is also investigating what it described as an “apparent assassination attempt” on Trump — the second such incident, with the first occurring during a rally in Butler, Pa., on July 13.
During a press briefing on Sunday, Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw revealed that Trump was approximately 300 to 500 yards away from the suspect when a Secret Service agent “engaged” with the individual, who was subsequently detained. “Secret Service did exactly what they were supposed to do, and their agent performed excellently,” Bradshaw said during the press conference.
