Report: Dan Bongino Considered for Secret Service Director Role
A report released Tuesday suggested that conservative radio host and former Secret Service agent Dan Bongino might be a candidate for the position of Secret Service Director in President-elect Donald Trump’s upcoming administration. RealClearPolitics correspondent Susan Crabtree shared this development on X, stating that Sean Curran — who led Trump’s security detail during the 2024 campaign — is currently seen as the leading candidate.
“Other names suggested by current and former Secret Service agents and officers include Dan Bongino, popular conservative commentator and podcast host who spent 11 years as a Secret Service agent and has been highly critical of the agency in the wake of the two assassination attempts against Trump,” Crabtree reported. She noted that Curran and Bongino share a close professional relationship, having worked together on assignments in Moscow, as Bongino has referenced on his Rumble podcast.
In June, Bongino issued a pointed critique of the Secret Service team assigned to Trump during the Biden administration, well before the shooting incident involving Trump on July 13.
“Having protected both Democrats and Republicans, protectees and presidents, right? I’m telling you, this guy’s in real danger,” Bongino stated. “My real concern here is, due to the partisan hatred of Donald Trump, that they may be pressured to not give him the security detail he needs … because they don’t want to make him look presidential, or different than the other candidates.”
