Schumer Book Events Called Off Over ‘Security Concerns’

Promotional events for Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer’s book, “Antisemitism in America: A Warning,” were originally set to occur this week but have now been called off.

“Due to security concerns, Senator Schumer’s book events are being rescheduled,” a spokesperson for Schumer confirmed, noting that the book remains set for release on Tuesday.

The senator had multiple scheduled engagements this week, but they were cancelled due to “security concerns,” according to Fox News.

Amid the looming threat of a partial government shutdown, Schumer frustrated some Democrats last week by advancing past a procedural barrier, enabling a vote on a government funding bill backed by Trump.

By invoking cloture, Schumer and several members of the Senate Democratic caucus effectively voted against passing the measure.

Senators Angus King, I-Maine, and Jeanne Shaheen, D-N.H., both members of the Senate Democratic caucus, supported both the cloture motion and the final passage of the bill.

Shaheen announced last week that she would not seek reelection in 2026.

Among Senate Republicans, only Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky opposed passing the funding bill.

Despite calling the “bill very bad,” Schumer emphasized before the vote that “the potential for a shutdown has consequences for America that are much, much worse.”

Former Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi joined other Democrats in criticizing Schumer for allowing the government to be funded via a Republican-led continuing resolution.

Though she did not refer to Schumer by name, Pelosi harshly criticized the legislation and its supporters in a post on X.

“Donald Trump and Elon Musk have offered the Congress a false choice between a government shutdown or a blank check that makes a devastating assault on the well-being of working families across America,” the former Speaker stated.

“Let’s be clear: neither is a good option for the American people. But this false choice that some are buying instead of fighting is unacceptable,” she added.

“I salute Leader Hakeem Jeffries for his courageous rejection of this false choice, and I am proud of my colleagues in the House Democratic Caucus for their overwhelming vote against this bill,” Pelosi continued, subtly critiquing those who backed the measure.

“Democratic senators should listen to the women. Appropriations leaders Rosa DeLauro and Patty Murray have eloquently presented the case that we must have a better choice: a four-week funding extension to keep government open and negotiate a bipartisan agreement,” she said.

“America has experienced a Trump shutdown before – but this damaging legislation only makes matters worse. Democrats must not buy into this false choice. We must fight back for a better way. Listen to the women, For The People,” Pelosi concluded.

Her remarks followed House Minority Leader and New York Rep. Hakeem Jeffries’ refusal to respond to a question about Schumer’s continued leadership in the Senate.

“Is it time for new leadership in the Senate?” a reporter asked Jeffries on Friday.

He dismissed the inquiry, simply replying: “Next question.”

On CNN, former Obama administration official Van Jones remarked that he had never witnessed such intense anger directed at a fellow Democrat.

“We can be grumpy. We can be frustrated with each other, there is a volcanic eruption of outrage at Leader Schumer because we want a Mitch McConnell. I remember when Obama had all the cards, Mitch McConnell drove Obama nuts, twisted his pinky, broke his kneecaps, and got stuff done for Republicans when they shouldn’t have gotten an inch, they got miles,” Jones said.

“We have a Senate majority leader who is beloved in this party, but we want somebody who’s gonna stand up to this bully. Stand up to this bully. Do something. And if you shut the government down and it gets a little bit crazy, at least some politics is about the rationality. There’s an emotional need to stop Donald Trump and Elon Musk from running over this party. And I think Chuck Schumer has radically misread the room,” Jones continued, without acknowledging that Democrats have previously criticized Republicans for advocating government shutdowns.

New York Democrat Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez also expressed her dissatisfaction with Schumer during an interview with CNN host Jake Tapper.
