'Second George Washington': Sylvester Stallone Delivers Powerful Introduction for Trump at Mar-a-Lago Event
Oscar-winning actor Sylvester Stallone made a striking comparison to both George Washington and Jesus Christ while honoring President-elect Donald Trump at a black-tie gala on Thursday. The celebration at Mar-a-Lago commemorated Trump’s sweeping election victory.
In a heartfelt speech, Stallone drew parallels between his difficult journey to Hollywood stardom and the seemingly insurmountable challenges Trump encountered on his way to political success.
“When I made ‘Rocky,’ if you remember, the first image was a picture of Jesus, and it said, ‘Resurrection AC Club,’” Stallone remarked.
He explained, “I found a church that had been converted into a boxing ring. So the image pans down from Jesus onto Rocky being hit. And at that moment, he was the chosen person. And that’s how I began the journey.
“Something was going to happen. This man was going to go through a metamorphosis and change lives — just like President Trump,” Stallone declared, drawing enthusiastic applause from the audience.
Stallone was referring to the opening scene of the 1976 Oscar-winning film “Rocky,” where the title character fights in a makeshift boxing ring inside a repurposed church.
“We are in the presence of a really mythical character. I love mythology,” Stallone said, emphasizing Trump’s unique impact.
“And this individual does not exist on this planet. Nobody in the world could have pulled off what he pulled off. So I’m in awe,” he added.
Stallone went on to liken Trump to George Washington, the revered first president of the United States.
“And I’ll just say this, and I mean it,” Stallone continued, “when George Washington defended his country, he had no idea that he was going to change the world. Because without him, you could imagine what the world would look like. Guess what? We got the second George Washington. Congratulations!”
The “Rocky” actor then invited Trump to the stage, and the two shared a heartfelt embrace.
“Rocky” is filled with Catholic symbolism, underscoring the theme of the underdog’s triumph against formidable odds.
In fact, Bill Conti, the legendary composer of the “Rocky” soundtrack, once revealed that the film’s memorable score was inspired by elements of the Catholic mass.
