Shock: 'Miracle Baby' Found Crawling Along Louisiana Highway

A Louisiana sheriff reported that a 1-year-old "miracle baby" endured two days of occasionally stormy weather before being spotted by a truck driver crawling along a roadside. This sighting occurred a day after the discovery of his 4-year-old brother's body and the arrest of their mother in Mississippi.

Calcasieu Parish Sheriff Gary “Stitch” Guillory stated that the baby, although covered in numerous bug bites, seemed to be in good health otherwise.

Pending autopsy reports for the 4-year-old, who was found on Monday, were discussed during a Tuesday news conference in Lake Charles, approximately 200 miles west of New Orleans.

The child's body was located in a lake behind an Interstate 10 welcome center near the Texas state line.

During the investigation into the 4-year-old’s death, authorities discovered that he had last been seen on Saturday with his mother, Aaliyah Jack, 25, of Lake Charles, and the 1-year-old.

Fearing the worst for the 1-year-old, authorities prepared on Tuesday morning to search the water where the older child was found. However, a truck driver called 911 after seeing the baby.

“We look at this 1-year-old as our miracle baby, because he was still alive,” a visibly moved Guillory said.

Hurricane Beryl had impacted east Texas early Monday, and the search for the child occurred amid intermittent heavy rain and high wind gusts.

“This kid spent two days out in the weather on the side of the highway,” Guillory explained.

“Thank God that trucker seen him.”

Jack was apprehended Monday night in Meridian, Mississippi, over 350 miles from where her children were discovered.

She is set to be extradited to Louisiana, where she will face a charge of failure to report a missing child. A Louisiana judge has set her bond at $300,000, Guillory noted.

Sheriff’s spokeswoman Kayla Vincent mentioned that no other charges were pending as of Wednesday afternoon, and the investigation was ongoing.

Online booking records were unavailable on Wednesday, and it was unclear if Jack had an attorney who could comment on her behalf.
