Speaker Johnson Rips Harris For Skipping Netanyahu Speech to Congress
House Speaker Mike Johnson criticized Vice President Kamala Harris for choosing to address the historically black Zeta Phi Beta sorority in Indiana instead of attending Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s speech to a joint session of Congress.
Harris, who also presides over the Senate, appeared to align with the far-left wing of her Democratic Party by boycotting the speech from Israel's key Middle Eastern ally. This decision angered Republicans, with some comparing her actions to supporting Hamas, a terrorist organization responsible for an October attack on Israel that resulted in over 1,300 deaths and numerous hostages, many of whom have since been killed.
Johnson condemned Harris's decision during an appearance on Fox Business Network with former Trump administration economist Larry Kudlow.
“Mr. Speaker. I know you’re very busy with the Netanyahu thing, which I thought was brilliant, and what did you take away from that? What were your key thoughts as you were listening to that speech?” Kudlow asked.
“Well, I agree with your analysis, Larry. I thought he hit a home run. I think he did exactly what he needed to do, and that is project strength on the part of Israel, commit to the return of hostages, both American and Israeli hostages, and clarify what the mission is there,” Johnson replied.
“We must defeat and vanquish Hamas and, ultimately, Iran. Iran, of course, is using proxies — Hamas, Hezbollah, Houthis, all the rest. So it all has the same root of the problem, and I thought he did a very good job of tying it all together. It was a bipartisan speech. I think that’s important. The support of America for Israel has always been a bipartisan matter. I was rather shocked Kamala Harris chose to boycott the speech today. She should be sitting next to me, and it was pretty shameful, and she will have to answer for that,” he added.
In other political news, a new survey brings positive news for former President Donald Trump just days after President Joe Biden announced he would not seek re-election and endorsed his vice president.
According to a CNN survey, 49 percent of respondents supported Trump, while 46 percent backed Harris. The poll, conducted by SSRS, took place between July 22-23, shortly after Biden's announcement. It surveyed registered voters who had participated in previous CNN surveys in April and June, where Trump led Biden by six points.
Newsmax reported the poll's findings:
- 64% said Republicans have a better chance of winning the presidency in 2024 if Trump is the party’s nominee.
- 50% said their vote is more in support of Harris than against Trump, compared to 37% of Biden’s supporters who said their vote was mainly to express support for the president.
- 74% said their vote is to express support for Trump rather than opposition to Harris.
- Among Harris supporters younger than 45, 43% said their vote is more in support of her than against Trump, up from 28% of Biden voters in that age group who felt the same way about the president in June.
- Democrats and Democrat-leaning voters are split over whether the next nominee should continue Biden’s policies (53%) or take the country in a new direction (47%).
- 88% of Republicans and Republican-leaning voters believe Republicans have a better chance of winning with Trump at the top of the ticket.
X platform boss and billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk criticized Harris after Biden endorsed her. He shared an older video clip of Harris chairing a meeting where she introduces herself: “Good afternoon. I want to welcome these leaders for coming in to have this very important discussion about some of the most pressing issues of our time. I am Kamala Harris. My pronouns are ‘she’ and ‘her.’ I am a woman sitting at the table wearing a blue suit.”
In his post, Musk wrote: “Imagine 4 years of this…”
