Speculation Erupts as Biden and Harris Both Abruptly Cancel Their Plans and Rush Back to White House

Something unusual is unfolding at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave., and it hasn’t gone unnoticed by Americans.

Social media buzzed with speculation after both President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris abruptly canceled their holiday travel plans and returned to the White House.

As reported by Newsweek, Biden called off his planned trip to Delaware to head back to Washington, D.C. Similarly, Harris canceled a visit to Los Angeles, California.

(It’s worth noting that her decision doesn’t appear related to California’s recent state of emergency.)

The absence of an official explanation—and the unusual timing of these changes—has led to widespread conjecture and rumors online.

One theory gaining traction, though currently unverified, suggests this may be a precursor to invoking the 25th Amendment.

For those unfamiliar, the 25th Amendment is essentially a guideline for presidential succession. According to the National Constitution Center, it allows the Vice President to assume the presidency if the sitting president dies, resigns, or is impeached. It also provides a process for the president to nominate a new vice president.

Most significantly, the amendment enables a president to temporarily transfer authority to the vice president.

At this stage, there’s no concrete evidence that any of these scenarios are happening. However, that hasn’t stopped the speculation online—including comments from Utah Senator Mike Lee, a Republican.

“Is this a 25A moment?” Lee posted on X early Friday.

Another X user observed, “Biden and Harris have returned to the White House. There are rumors they are planning on invoking the 25th amendment just to make Kamala Harris president for 30 days.” That user went on to suggest a possible motive: “Are the Democrats planning on Kamala Harris giving Joe Biden a pardon for his entire political career?”

(This comes amid recent scrutiny of Biden for issuing a series of pardons.)

Even social media users not directly suggesting a 25th Amendment invocation noted that the sudden developments seemed unusual.

“Biden barely looks alive,” Canadian political commentator Liz Churchill posted. “If he’s canceling his vacation and returning to the White House…4 hours past his bedtime…something is happening…” Churchill included a video clip showing Joe and Jill Biden, accompanied by their grandson Beau, walking across the White House lawn.

It’s worth noting that President-elect Donald Trump is set to be inaugurated on January 20, 2025.
