Tim Walz Endorses Anti-Gun Activist David Hogg For DNC Vice Chair
Democratic Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, running mate to Vice President Kamala Harris, has officially endorsed anti-gun activist David Hogg for the position of Democratic National Committee (DNC) vice-chair.
“David Hogg represents exactly the kind of bold, dynamic, and courageous leadership the Democratic Party needs right now,” Walz said.
“After campaigning with David throughout the country, I know firsthand his unique ability to connect with the American people and to speak to the strengths of our party,” Walz continued.
“This is exactly what we need right now: experienced, thoughtful, and energized leadership that meets people where they are and takes bold action to win. I couldn’t be happier to throw my support behind him and his vision for the party, and I look forward to working with him every step of the way.”
Hogg, who became a prominent anti-gun activist following the Parkland school shooting, expressed his gratitude for the endorsement.
“Ever since the shooting at my high school, he’s been a champion for the gun violence prevention movement––exemplifying leadership that listens, takes action, and works tirelessly to better our lives,” the 24-year-old said.
“Beyond his commitment to public service, Governor Walz is a good human being, plain and simple. He’s a good, decent man, and the Democratic Party is fortunate to have him in its ranks,” Hogg added.
This endorsement followed another announcement by Walz, who also backed Minnesota Democratic Party Chair Ken Martin for DNC chair.
“In Minnesota, Ken has built a national model for how to elect Democrats in a competitive state,” Walz said. “I have seen Ken’s leadership in action, and it’s exactly what we need from our next D.N.C. chair.”
The endorsements come amid turmoil within the Democratic Party following the November 5 election, in which the Democratic candidate spent over $1 billion but ultimately lost. The DNC subsequently laid off hundreds of employees, a move that has drawn sharp criticism.
According to Mother Jones, the layoffs affected roughly two-thirds of DNC staff, many of whom received little notice and no severance. The DNC union launched a GoFundMe campaign to raise $25,000 to support affected staff members, sparking backlash from within the organization.
In a public statement, the union called the layoffs “callous” and “short-sighted,” noting that some employees had previously been assured their jobs would be secure after Election Day.
“We are heartbroken to see our colleagues – who dedicated countless hours to electing Democrats up and down the ballot – depart under these circumstances, and we are furious with DNC leadership for failing to provide severance to those affected,” wrote Jill Brownfield, a DNC staff union organizer, on the GoFundMe page.
A DNC spokesperson defended the layoffs, stating that the organization had adhered to its Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
“Every cycle, political organizations scale up to meet the demands, and as the cycle comes to a close, it’s a tough reality of our industry that we must part with talented, hardworking staff,” the spokesperson told Fox News Digital.
“While the DNC has met the terms of the union agreement negotiated by the CBA, we share the entire DNC family’s frustration and continue to provide resources to all members of the team to support them in this transition,” the spokesperson added.
