Tim Walz Ripped Over Attempt To Shame Trump For Moving Inauguration Indoors
Minnesota Governor Tim Walz didn’t quite get the response he may have anticipated when he attempted to poke fun at President-elect Donald Trump’s decision to move his inauguration indoors due to a forecast of extremely cold weather in Washington, D.C., on Monday.
In reaction to the announcement, Walz, who is Vice President Kamala Harris' running mate, shared a photo of himself delivering a speech outdoors in a snowstorm — presumably in his home state.
“There’s no such thing as bad weather, just bad clothing,” Walz wrote in his social media post.
The post seemed to send the message that Walz could handle inclement weather better than Trump, despite the fact that the Trump transition team’s concern was not for the president-elect himself, but for the tens of thousands of Americans who planned to attend the event.
In response to Walz's attempted jab, several social media users reminded him that Trump and Vice President-elect JD Vance had soundly defeated him and Harris in the election.
Meanwhile, some Democrats are continuing to struggle with Trump’s historic victory.
Nancy Pelosi, who has long spoken about preserving democratic norms and respecting election results, appears to be acting in contrast to her previous rhetoric. The former House Speaker has declined an invitation to attend the inauguration, ABC News reported.
Her office did not provide a reason for her absence, though Pelosi, 84, did sustain a broken hip after a fall in Germany last month.
Additionally, former First Lady Michelle Obama will not be attending the inauguration, though her husband, former President Barack Obama, will be present.
“Former President Barack Obama is confirmed to attend the 60th Inaugural Ceremonies. Former First Lady Michelle Obama will not attend the upcoming inauguration,” a brief statement from the Office of Barack and Michelle Obama said.
“A spokesperson for former President George W. Bush confirmed he and former First Lady Laura Bush are planning to be at the Capitol for the festivities. Michelle Obama also did not attend funeral services for Jimmy Carter last week, where all the living former presidents gathered. The other living first ladies were also present,” CBS News reported.
Since 2008, Michelle Obama has attended every inauguration, including Trump’s first in 2017, when she and her husband were departing the White House. She later shared her thoughts on attending that event in 2023.
“To sit on that stage and watch the opposite of what we represented on display, there was no diversity, there was no color on that stage,” Obama said. “There was no reflection of the broader sense of America. Many people took pictures of me and they’re like, you weren’t in a good mood. No, I was not.”
This comes after a viral moment from last week, where Trump and Obama were seen having a friendly conversation at the National Cathedral during the funeral of former President Jimmy Carter. All living presidents were in attendance.
Trump leaned in toward Obama, who laughed several times. During their conversation, Vice President Harris, who was seated in front of them next to second gentleman Doug Emhoff, turned around to face them but quickly turned back forward with a look that appeared to mix frustration, angst, and disbelief.
