Trump Comments on Drones, Suggests ‘Government Knows What is Happening’
President-elect Donald Trump shared his thoughts on the mysterious drones spotted over Eastern states.
Speaking at Mar-a-Lago, Trump, soon to be the 47th president, appeared alongside SoftBank Group CEO Masayoshi Son to announce SoftBank’s ambitious plans to invest $100 billion in the U.S. economy over the next four years.
Following the announcement, Trump fielded questions from reporters, including one about “unidentified objects” and his views on the matter.
“The government knows what is happening,” Trump remarked when asked about reports of drones flying over New Jersey. “Our military knows where they launched from. If it’s a garage, they can pinpoint that garage. They know where it started and where it ended. But for some reason, they don’t want to talk about it.”
He elaborated further, saying, “I think they’d be better off sharing what our military and president know,” hinting at a potential lack of openness within the government. “For some reason, they seem to want to keep the public guessing.”
Dismissing the notion that these incidents involved a foreign adversary, Trump added, “I can’t imagine it’s the enemy because if it were, the enemy would have acted. Even if they were late, they would’ve responded.” He described the situation as “strange” and questioned the lack of transparency. “For some reason, they don’t want to inform people, and they should. People deserve to know. These drones were reportedly near Bedminster. We are very aware of that... maybe I won’t spend the weekend there. I’ve decided to cancel my trip.”
When asked whether he had been briefed on the drones, Trump declined to answer, stating, “I don’t want to comment on that.”
WATCH:
Earlier during the event, Trump and Son announced SoftBank’s $100 billion investment plan.
Son expressed his growing confidence in the U.S. economy, attributing it to Trump’s leadership. “My confidence level in the U.S. economy has tremendously increased with [Trump’s] victory,” he said. “Because of that, I am committing $100 billion and 100,000 jobs to the United States. This is double what we planned before… because President Trump is a double-down president.”
Trump described the investment as a testament to “monumental confidence in America’s future.” He humorously nudged Son to aim higher, suggesting a $200 billion investment instead. Son laughed and said he would consider it.
Trump praised Son as “one of the most accomplished business leaders of our time.”
Below is a transcript of their remarks:
SON: “Thank you so much. I’m very, very excited. I would really like to celebrate the great victory of President Trump. And my confidence level to the economy of the United States has tremendously increased with his victory. So because of that, I’m now excited to commit this $100 billion and 100,000 jobs into the United States. This is double of last time, as President Trump said. Because I say, oh, President Trump is a double-down president. I’m going to have to double down, you know? $100 billion and 100,000 jobs. This is my confidence level, because that has doubled down. So I am truly excited to make this happen. And of course, business is important. Technology is important. But one more thing I’m really hoping is that this President Trump would make the world, bring the world into peace again. That’s my additional hope. And I think he will actually make it happen. So anyway, I’m excited to go. And we were discussing, and President Trump said, ‘Masa, double down is not enough. Maybe go for more.’ Right?”
Trump: “I’m going to ask him right now, would you make it $200 billion instead of $100 billion? (Laughter) He can actually — believe it or not, he can actually afford to do that. Would you do that?”
SON: “Well, my promise is 100, but he’s now asking to do more. I think, you know, with your leadership, my partnership with you, with your support, I will try to make it happen.”
Trump: “That’s great, thank you.”
SON: “All right.”
Trump: “Two hundred. He’ll make it happen. $200 billion investment. That’s great.”
SON: “He is a great negotiator.” (Laughter)
Trump: “He’s a brilliant guy and doing an unbelievable job. And the people of Japan and all over the world are very proud of him. Tremendous respect for himself. What he does, what he just did, and I would be surprised if it didn’t go to 200. When you say you’ll try, I know you’ll do it.”
SON: “I will really try. And I need your support, though.”
Trump: “You’ll have my support.”
SON: “All right.”
