Trump Criticizes Harris for Supporting Bail Fund

Former President Donald Trump is focusing on Vice President Kamala Harris's progressive track record as they vie for the presidency.

At a rally in Minnesota on Saturday, Trump highlighted Harris’s endorsement of the Minnesota Freedom Fund and the criminals it helped bail out. Although Harris did not personally donate to the fund, she promoted it on her X (formerly Twitter) account, encouraging others to contribute, as reported by The Daily Caller.

“The video mentions criminals such as Donovan Boone, who was charged with invading the home of his ex-girlfriend and strangling her. Other names mentioned include Christopher Boswell, who is a twice-convicted rapist that was charged with kidnapping, assault, and sexual assault in 2020. Darnika Floyd, who was charged with second-degree murder after fatally stabbing a man who refused to have sex with her. Thomas Moseley, who was arrested for damaging a police station, drugs, and rioting charges, and Shawn Tillman, who murdered a passenger at a train station in St. Paul, Minnesota, just after being released,” the report detailed.

“At today’s rally in Minnesota, President Trump will set the record straight on dangerously liberal Kamala Harris’ long history of supporting soft on crime policies, like defunding the police, that have made our cities and neighborhoods less safe. Harris encouraged donations to the Minnesota Freedom Fund, which bailed now-convicted murderers and rapists out of jail and put them back on our streets to commit more heinous crimes,” Trump Campaign National Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt told the Caller before the rally.

“Kamala and the mainstream media can try to rewrite history, but President Trump will make sure Minnesotans and all Americans know the truth — Harris is a pro-criminal extremist,” Leavitt asserted.

“If you’re able to, chip in now to the @MNFreedomFund to help post bail for those protesting on the ground in Minnesota,” Harris tweeted on June 1, 2020.

Trump elaborated on the types of criminals supported by the Minnesota Freedom Fund.

“Kamala urged her followers to donate to the so-called Minnesota Freedom Fund, helping raise $35 million dollars to set loose violent offenders after they shot at police, looted stores, sexually assaulted innocent victims, and committed other heinous crimes,” Trump said.

“One of the criminals Kamala helped bail out of jail was Shawn Michael Tillman—a repeat offender who, with Harris’s help, was set free. He then went on to murder a man on a train platform in Saint Paul, shooting him six times in the head,” he added.

This is not the only instance where Harris’s stance on law and order has come under scrutiny.

During a June 2020 radio interview, Harris praised the “defund the police” campaign, CNN reported.

“This whole movement is about rightly saying, we need to take a look at these budgets and figure out whether it reflects the right priorities,” she said on the New York radio show “Ebro in the Morning” on June 9, 2020.

She argued that cities nationwide were “militarizing police” while “defunding public schools.”

Harris’s history of supporting a bail fund for Black Lives Matter protesters who have been convicted poses a challenge as she attempts to position herself as a proponent of law and order.

“Let’s be clear about something: If Kamala Harris becomes the next president of the United States, she will be an unmitigated disaster for public safety in this country,” Joe Gamaldi, national vice president of the Fraternal Order of Police and an active Houston Police Department lieutenant, told Fox News in an interview.

“She has loudly and proudly supported bail reform and has even donated and encouraged other people to donate to a fund that helped get murderers, rapists, and people who were shooting people in the streets, out on bail,” Gamaldi said. “We’re not talking about helping bail out the mom who stole a candy bar from the store to help feed her kids; we’re talking about violent criminals.”
