Trump Fires Back After Biden Labels His Supporters ‘Garbage
Former President Donald Trump hit back at President Joe Biden after Biden referred to Trump’s supporters as “garbage,” claiming the comment was even more offensive than Hillary Clinton’s 2016 “basket of deplorables” remark.
At a rally on Tuesday night in Allentown, Pennsylvania, Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida informed Trump on stage about Biden’s insult toward his supporters.
Biden made the comment during a Zoom call, discussing a comedian at Trump’s Madison Square Garden rally on Sunday, who had compared Puerto Rico to a “floating island of garbage.”
On the campaign Zoom, Biden remarked, “The only garbage I see floating out there is his [Trump’s] supporters.”
Trump promptly replied to Biden’s comment: “Wow, that’s what [Biden] says… garbage. I think it’s worse [than deplorable].”
Trump was alluding to Hillary Clinton’s well-known 2016 speech, where she referred to Trump’s initial supporters as a “basket of deplorables” during his first campaign.
“Please forgive him, for he knoweth not what he says. Honestly, he doesn’t. And I’m convinced he likes me more than he likes Kamala,” Trump quipped, hinting at Biden’s mental fitness.
“No!” the crowd shouted back in response.

Trump’s allies quickly condemned Biden’s remark.
“Just moments ago, Joe Biden called our supporters garbage. I hope their campaign apologizes. We are not garbage; we are patriots who love America,” Rubio said alongside Trump on stage.
J.D. Vance, Trump’s vice-presidential pick, criticized Biden’s comment as “disgusting.”
“This is disgusting. Kamala Harris and her boss Joe Biden are attacking half of the country. There’s no excuse for this. I hope Americans reject it,” Vance stated.
Donald Trump Jr. also responded on X, formerly Twitter, writing, “The media spent all week crying about a comedian’s joke, while Tim Walz called Trump supporters Nazis. Kamala Harris wouldn’t condemn it. Now Kamala’s biggest ally, Joe Biden, is calling Trump supporters ‘garbage.’ Absolutely disgusting!!!”
Trump campaign communications director Steven Cheung also criticized Biden’s words on X, noting that Vice President Kamala Harris and Biden “HATE Americans and will do everything to crush us if they ever hold power again.”
In an attempt at damage control, the White House issued a statement to clarify that Biden wasn’t targeting Trump supporters with his remarks.
White House spokesperson Andrew Bates explained to Fox News that Biden was “referring to the hateful rhetoric at the Madison Square Garden rally as ‘garbage.’”
According to Biden, he was referencing a joke by comedian Tony Hinchcliffe comparing Puerto Rico to a “floating island of garbage.”
Biden later clarified his statement further, stating that he was criticizing Hinchcliffe’s comments—not Trump’s supporters.
“Earlier today, I described the hateful rhetoric about Puerto Rico from Trump’s supporters at his Madison Square Garden rally as garbage—which is the only way I can describe it,” Biden wrote in a post on X. “His demonization of Latinos is unconscionable. That’s all I intended to convey. The comments at that rally do not represent who we are as a nation.”
