Trump Promises Transgender Surgery Ban for Minors Without Parental Consent

Former President Donald Trump recently outlined a new policy stance during a visit to the Livingston County Sheriff’s Department in Howell, Michigan, setting a clear distinction between himself and his Democratic rival ahead of the November election.

As Vice President Kamala Harris continues to avoid detailed interviews with the media to share her policy views, Trump is taking firm positions on a range of issues, including the economy, foreign policy, and domestic matters.

At his campaign stop on Tuesday, Trump declared, “And to protect our children from sexual mutilation, we will make it a felony for any medical professional to perform surgery on a minor without parental consent.”

He also stated his intention to “ask for the death penalty for child rapists and child traffickers.”

The debate over transgender medical procedures for minors, including double mastectomies for girls and the use of puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones, has become a significant cultural controversy in recent years.

The former president’s campaign shared the news on social media platforms.

The Biden-Harris administration, on the other hand, has supported maintaining the legality of these interventions for minors, even challenging age restrictions on certain transgender procedures in a legal case in Alabama, according to court records.

Last year, Trump vowed to direct several federal agencies to work toward “stopping” transgender medical procedures for minors, describing it as “child abuse.” He also expressed his intention to prevent federal agencies from promoting the concept of sex and gender transition at any age.

In addition, Trump said last year that he would encourage schools to “promote positive education about the nuclear family” and emphasize “the roles of mothers and fathers.”

Detransitioners—those who underwent transgender surgeries and hormone treatments at a young age but later regretted their decisions—have raised concerns about the negative impact of these treatments. They argue that their doctors did not adequately address underlying mental health conditions, such as autism, anxiety, or depression, before recommending transgender medical interventions.

Many parents have also voiced frustration over public schools affirming their children’s new gender identities without informing them or seeking their consent.

According to a list compiled by Parents Defending Education, over 19,000 schools across the country have policies that allow or require staff to keep a student’s gender identity confidential from their parents.

A poll conducted last year found that only about 44% of Democrats opposed schools counseling children on their sexual orientation and gender identity without parental knowledge.

In a separate pledge, Trump announced on Friday that he would establish a commission on assassination attempts, which would include the release of the remaining documents related to the assassination of John F. Kennedy in November 1963.

Trump made this announcement during a rally in Glendale, Arizona, just hours after receiving an endorsement from Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who had ended his presidential bid as a Democrat-turned-Independent earlier that day. Kennedy’s father, Robert F. Kennedy Sr., JFK’s brother, was also assassinated during his own presidential campaign on June 5, 1968, at the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles, California.

JFK was assassinated in Dallas on November 22, 1963.

During his rally speech, Trump referred to an assassination attempt against him last month in Butler, Pennsylvania. “They will also conduct a rigorous review of the attack last month,” Trump stated, as reported by the New York Post. “But I tell you, I have never had more people ask me, ‘Please, sir, release the documents on the Kennedy assassination,’ and we’re going to do that.”

Trump also reiterated his commitment to forming a panel of “top experts working with Bobby” to investigate the causes behind a “decades-long increase in chronic health problems and childhood diseases.”
