Trump Pulls Security Clearances For Harris, Cheney, Others
President Donald Trump recently made a significant national security decision that has surprised many due to its unconventional nature.
On Friday, Trump revoked the security clearances of several former high-ranking officials, a move he justified as essential for safeguarding the nation. Prior to this, he had also stripped his predecessor, former President Joe Biden, of his security clearance—a highly atypical action.
In a memorandum released on the official White House website, Trump stated:
“I have determined that it is no longer in the national interest for the following individuals to access classified information: Antony Blinken, Jacob Sullivan, Lisa Monaco, Mark Zaid, Norman Eisen, Letitia James, Alvin Bragg, Andrew Weissmann, Hillary Clinton, Elizabeth Cheney, Kamala Harris, Adam Kinzinger, Fiona Hill, Alexander Vindman, Joseph R. Biden Jr., and any other member of Joseph R. Biden Jr.’s family. Therefore, I hereby direct every executive department and agency head to take all additional action as necessary and consistent with existing law to revoke any active security clearances held by the aforementioned individuals and to immediately rescind their access to classified information. I also direct all executive department and agency heads to revoke unescorted access to secure United States Government facilities from these individuals,” he declared.
The president elaborated further, saying, “This action includes, but is not limited to, receipt of classified briefings, such as the President’s Daily Brief, and access to classified information held by any member of the Intelligence Community by virtue of the named individuals’ previous tenure in the Congress.”
He also directed that, “In the event that any of the named individuals received a security clearance by virtue of their employment with a private entity, the United States Government entity that granted the security clearance should inform the private entity that these individuals’ ability to access classified information has been revoked.”
In February, Trump had announced on the Truth Social platform that he was ending Biden’s daily intelligence briefings, citing concerns about Biden’s mental state and potential security risks. He also confirmed that Biden’s security clearance had been rescinded.
“There is no need for Joe Biden to continue receiving access to classified information. Therefore, we are immediately revoking Joe Biden’s Security Clearances, and stopping his daily Intelligence Briefings,” Trump stated, reminding the public that Biden had done the same to him after taking office.
“He set this precedent in 2021, when he instructed the Intelligence Community (IC) to stop the 45th President of the United States (ME!) from accessing details on National Security, a courtesy provided to former Presidents,” Trump noted.
Trump also referred to the “Hur Report,” which suggested that Biden suffers from “poor memory” and, even at his peak, was unreliable when it came to handling sensitive information. Trump concluded his statement with a sharp rebuke: “I will always protect our National Security — JOE, YOU’RE FIRED. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”
The former president’s remarks referenced an investigation led by former Special Counsel Robert Hur, who had examined Biden’s alleged mishandling of classified records. The report, which pointed to Biden’s memory lapses, contradicted his prior statements on the matter.
In March, Hur testified that there was evidence indicating that “pride and money” played a role in Biden’s retention of classified documents. Despite these revelations, Hur ultimately chose not to recommend criminal charges against Biden, as noted by Fox News.
