Trump Responds After GOP Lawmaker Makes Pregnancy Announcement
Republican Representative Kat Cammack took many of her GOP colleagues—and even former President Donald Trump—by surprise when she shared news of her pregnancy during the White House’s Women’s History Month event on Wednesday.
The 37-year-old congresswoman from Florida made the announcement while standing onstage in the East Room alongside fellow female Republican lawmakers. She revealed that she is expecting a baby girl, due in August. One Republican lawmaker jokingly pointed out that Cammack had “a long way to go” to match Illinois Representative Mary Miller, who is a mother of seven.
As Trump introduced the Republican women at the gathering, he took a moment to congratulate Cammack. “And Representative Kat Cammack, who just announced a new baby girl. That’s great,” he said.
A special shoutout for the @GOPWomensCaucus by President Trump! And the great news that Rep. Cammack is expecting her first baby later this year! pic.twitter.com/NGh3PSvoXP

Cammack also made light of the House Republicans’ slim majority with a comment directed at House Speaker Mike Johnson.
“Mr. Speaker, don’t worry. Margins are fine. I’m due in August,” she quipped.
Her announcement came shortly before Trump delivered his speech, where he focused on his voting record regarding women’s issues, highlighted policies he said benefited American women, and acknowledged the contributions of women in his administration.
“And thank you for the vote, you were very nice to me,” Trump remarked. “We set every record. We loved it. We loved that vote.”
Exit polls from the 2024 election suggested that Trump trailed Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris by roughly eight points among female voters. However, among white women, he managed to garner about 53 percent of their votes.
During his speech, Trump also emphasized his stance on protecting women through executive orders. Notably, he referenced signing an order preventing biological men from competing in women’s sports, as well as another that affirmed there are only two biological sexes.
“On day one, I made the official policy of the United States government that there are only two genders: male and female,” Trump stated. “Is there anybody, seriously, is there anybody that disagrees with that in this room?” He then joked, “I thought maybe somebody from the press might raise their hand.”
Trump then turned his focus to Democrats, claiming they were “fighting for a 2 percent issue” in reference to their opposition to bans on biological males competing in women’s sports.
“No matter how many surgeries you have or chemicals you inject, if you’re born with male DNA in every cell of your body, you can never become a woman. You’re not going to be a woman,” Trump said, reinforcing what he described as a long-established scientific fact.
He also took the opportunity to highlight several women in his administration, starting with Susie Wiles, the first female White House chief of staff in U.S. history.
“And she was just named by one of the very prominent media groups, I don’t mention because I cannot stand the people, but she has just been named as, and it’s true, the most powerful woman in the world,” Trump said.
Trump then praised 27-year-old White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt, who had faced intense questioning earlier that day after The Atlantic’s editor-in-chief was reportedly added to a White House Signal group chat intended for military planning against the Houthis.
“Also, we’re going to go to somebody that’s really the rage right now. She’s the youngest ever White House press secretary,” Trump noted. “Karoline, look at you. … you’re not too young, and she’s knocking them dead.”
Additionally, he commended Alina Habba, referring to her as being “like a rocket ship” as she transitions from serving as his counselor to the president to becoming the U.S. Attorney for the District of New Jersey. Trump further boasted about the number of women in his administration, stating, “I had more women in our Cabinet than any Republican president in the history of our country.”
“Remember they were saying he doesn’t like strong women? That may be true, but if that’s true, I’m in deep trouble because I’m surrounded. I got the strongest women,” Trump joked.
