Trump Surpasses Harris in Latest NBC Poll, Gaining Momentum
In a recent NBC News poll, former President Donald Trump has pulled ahead of Vice President Kamala Harris after previously trailing her in previous weeks.
The poll reveals a deadlock in a direct matchup, with Trump and Harris each capturing 48 percent. However, when third-party candidates like Cornel West and Dr. Jill Stein are included, Trump edges ahead by one point, holding 47 percent over Harris’s 46 percent.
NBC News noted, “In the new poll — conducted Oct. 4-8 — Harris gets support from 48% of registered voters in a head-to-head matchup, while Trump gets an identical 48%. Another 4% say they are undecided or wouldn’t vote for either option when forced to choose between those two major-party candidates.”
This marks a notable change from September's poll, where Harris led Trump by five points, with a 49 to 44 percent advantage.
In the expanded ballot, Trump again leads with 47 percent to Harris’s 46 percent, while seven percent expressed support for other candidates or remained undecided.
Additionally, both candidates experienced shifts in public perception. In September, 40 percent of respondents had a positive view of Trump, with 53 percent negative. By October, Trump’s favorability rose by three points, whereas Harris’s dropped from 48 percent to 43 percent.
The survey also reviewed Trump’s retrospective job approval rating, which reached 48 percent — higher than any point during his presidency. Moreover, a majority of respondents, at 45 percent, felt the Biden-Harris Administration’s policies were “hurting” them, compared to 25 percent who felt positively impacted.
NBC’s findings aligned with another recent poll from the Wall Street Journal, showing Trump leading Harris nationwide by 46 percent to 45 percent, while swing states were reported as being too close to call.
Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich suggested over the weekend that Harris “is actually beginning to lose ground among the electorate.” His remarks followed a series of interviews where Harris appeared to struggle with responses, while affirming her complete support for President Joe Biden’s policies, which some attribute to economic and global instability.
“My guess is that we are in the early stages of watching her collapse, given the objective larger realities that surround her,” Gingrich said. He speculated, “I just — my hunch as a historian and occasional novelist is that sometime in the last two weeks, Joe and Jill looked at each other and thought, you know, wouldn’t it be a great legacy if Joe’s the only guy ever to beat Trump?
“And I think the stuff he’s done to undermine her in the last ten days is — is pretty amazing, and I don’t think it’s an accident,” he added, suggesting Biden might be intentionally undermining Harris after a potential decision not to seek reelection.

Some pundits are beginning to share this view, with mounting anecdotal evidence suggesting that Biden may indeed be working to weaken Harris’s candidacy, as reported by The New York Post.
