Trump To Face ‘Bar of Justice’ If He Loses To Harris: Obama Official
During a recent CNN interview, a top political adviser from former President Barack Obama’s administration highlighted that the "stakes are high" for Donald Trump in the upcoming election, especially if he loses to Vice President Kamala Harris.
Speaking with CNN host Michael Smerconish, David Axelrod mentioned that Trump would have to confront several unresolved legal cases if he doesn't win.
“David, I’ve had listeners on my radio show question whether he’s intentionally trying to lose, whether he’s trying to sabotage his own campaign, and my response is that his liberty is at stake. This is someone who, for the sake of his own freedom and financial security, needs to win this race,” Smerconish began.
“Well, I think that’s part of the problem, Michael. The stakes for him are much higher than for any typical candidate because losing means he’s going to have to face the bar of justice, something he thought he had escaped. He believed he had already won,” Axelrod responded.
“When we were in Milwaukee, the conversation was about a landslide, and it seemed like they were discussing the terms of surrender that would be demanded. He was very confident that he had overcome this,” Axelrod continued.
“Now, suddenly, his life is flashing before his eyes, and I think it’s unsettling him. But, you know, they sent him out recently for a press conference about the economy. His main challenge is to make her the incumbent and not the candidate who represents change. He wants to link her to Biden in a way that makes her the incumbent, which was the purpose of that press conference. Instead, he spent 10 minutes on his legal issues, lashing out at other matters,” Axelrod added.
“And he overshadowed the message of his own press conference. He’s not a competent candidate right now, and one of the big questions about the upcoming debate is whether this is the same person who will appear on stage, because if it is, they’re in for a lot of trouble,” he concluded.
During his first debate with President Joe Biden, Trump surprised many with his composed demeanor, his skillful handling of questions, and his self-discipline. Nonetheless, he has brought in some special "talent" to help him prepare for his debate against Harris, which is scheduled for September 10 on ABC in Philadelphia.
According to The New York Times, the former president has enlisted the help of former Democrat Hawaii Rep. Tulsi Gabbard for his debate preparations.
Gabbard, a former Democratic congresswoman who became an Independent after her 2020 presidential campaign, is known for her frequent appearances on Fox News. However, some may not recall how she criticized the vice president during the 2020 Democratic Primary Debate.
“Senator Harris says she’s proud of her record as a prosecutor and that she’ll be a prosecutor president, but I’m deeply concerned about this record,” she said during the debate, which many believe was the death knell for the 2020 Harris campaign. “There are too many examples to cite, but she put over 1,500 people in jail for marijuana violations and then laughed about it when she was asked if she ever smoked marijuana.”
“She blocked evidence that would have freed an innocent man from death row until the courts forced her to do so,” Gabbard said to a visibly uncomfortable Harris. “She kept people in prison beyond their sentences to use them as cheap labor for the state of California, and she fought to keep a cash bail system in place that impacts poor people in the worst kind of way.”
