Trump Trolls Biden, Campaigns in Garbage Truck Amid 'Garbage' Controversy
Former President Donald Trump seized on a recent Democratic controversy during a campaign stop in Wisconsin on Wednesday.
Arriving to meet reporters in a “campaign-themed garbage truck,” Trump fielded questions in Green Bay, Wisconsin, wearing a vest similar to those typically used by waste management workers.
“How do you like my garbage truck?” Trump joked with reporters in a now-viral clip. “This truck is in honor of Kamala and Joe Biden.”
This spectacle is likely a response to a comment President Joe Biden made on Tuesday.
During a Zoom event with Voto Latino, Biden had referenced a joke by comedian Tony Hinchcliffe, told during Trump’s rally at Madison Square Garden in New York City on Sunday.
Hinchcliffe, a well-known roast comic, ended his joke with a line describing Puerto Rico as a “floating island of garbage.”
Reacting to the joke, Biden remarked, “The only garbage I see floating out there is [Trump’s] supporters.”
The comment rapidly gained attention and sparked strong backlash.
Biden later attempted to clarify his words on social media, calling Hinchcliffe’s joke “hateful rhetoric.”
Trump first heard about Biden’s remark during a rally on Tuesday, where his supporters witnessed his real-time reaction.
Comparing the comment to Hillary Clinton’s notorious “basket of deplorables” statement about Trump supporters, Trump quipped, “That didn’t work out. Garbage, I think, is worse, right?”
