Trump Urges GOP to Pay off Harris Campaign's Debts in the Name of 'Unity'

In an unexpected move, President-elect Donald Trump has called on the Republican Party to assist Kamala Harris's campaign in paying off its outstanding debt.

This action aligns with Trump’s recent emphasis on unity within the nation.

Trump made the appeal in a post on X on Saturday evening.

"I am very surprised that the Democrats, who fought a hard and valiant fight in the 2020 Presidential Election, raising a record amount of money, didn’t have lots of $’s left over. Now they are being squeezed by vendors and others,” Trump wrote.

He continued, “Whatever we can do to help them during this difficult period, I would strongly recommend we, as a Party and for the sake of desperately needed UNITY, do. We have a lot of money left over in that our biggest asset in the campaign was 'Earned Media,' and that doesn’t cost very much. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”

Christopher Cadelago from Politico was the first to report on the financial trouble faced by the Harris campaign.

Although the campaign managed to raise over $1 billion, and reportedly had $118 million “in the bank” as of October 16, it still accrued substantial debt.

According to Cadelago, the campaign currently owes at least $20 million.

Even after the election loss, the Harris campaign continues to seek donations, stating that contributions will support “a handful of Senate and House races still too close to call.”

Saturday’s social media post was not Trump’s first message on unity.

During his Nov. 6 acceptance speech, Trump expressed his intention to bridge the nation’s divides.

“It’s time to put the divisions of the past four years behind us. It’s time to unite…,” he said, adding, “Success will bring us together.”

“Success is going to bring us together, and we are going to start by all putting America first.”
