Trump's Border Czar Threatens to Arrest Leftist Mayor for Shielding Illegals: 'I'm Willing to Put Him in Jail'
President-elect Donald Trump’s border czar, Tom Homan, is sending a strong message about his stance on illegal immigration.
Homan, a former acting director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and a long-standing advocate for strict immigration enforcement, has little patience for Democratic leaders promising to resist Trump’s deportation policies. Speaking with Fox News’ Sean Hannity this week, Homan outlined his uncompromising approach.
The conversation centered on Denver Mayor Mike Johnston, whose city has reportedly seen a significant rise in illegal immigration, burdening its resources. Last week, Johnston told Denver’s KUSA that he would be prepared to go to jail to oppose Trump’s immigration enforcement.
Homan’s response to Hannity was blunt: “Me and the Denver mayor, we agree on one thing: He’s willing to go to jail; I’m willing to put him in jail.”
Homan pointed out that it is a federal felony to “knowingly harbor and conceal illegal aliens from immigration authorities.” He added, “He can get the hell out of the way. But we’re gonna go do the job.”
Homan underscored the administration's commitment, stating, “President Trump has a mandate from the American people. We gotta secure this country. We gotta save American lives.”
Johnston’s earlier remarks, reported by Denverite, suggested he might use Denver law enforcement to obstruct deportation efforts or even organize public protests reminiscent of the Tiananmen Square demonstrations, where civilians stood against tanks to protect others.
Conservative commentator John M. Grondelski, writing for American Thinker, compared Johnston’s stance to the left's familiar tactic of using “human shields,” likening it to the methods employed by Hamas in Gaza.
Johnston’s rhetoric appears to echo the so-called “resistance” movement that emerged after Trump’s 2016 election victory. This movement drew comparisons to the French Resistance during World War II, though critics argue the parallels are exaggerated. As Homan and others note, the American electorate has decisively prioritized immigration control, a key issue in Trump’s campaign.
The influx of illegal immigrants under the Biden-Harris administration has, according to critics, led to a dramatic rise in both harmless entrants and individuals posing serious threats. With millions crossing the border, the demand for enforcement has grown louder.
Homan’s approach to those obstructing federal immigration efforts is unyielding: if Democrats like Johnston attempt to block enforcement, they’ll face legal consequences. As Homan emphasized, he is ready to act decisively to uphold the law and the will of the people.
