Trump's VP Pick to Be Made Next Week, And These 2 Big Names Are in Front for the Job

A recent report has identified two main contenders for the position of former President Donald Trump’s vice presidential candidate, while other sources have mentioned a third potential name and suggested that the final decision remains uncertain.

The New York Post indicates that the primary competition is between Ohio Senator J.D. Vance and North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum.

The Post also mentioned that Florida Senator Marco Rubio has an “outside shot,” though a report citing unnamed sources stated that neither South Carolina Senator Tim Scott nor former Housing and Urban Development Secretary Dr. Ben Carson are likely picks. Trump is expected to announce his choice on Monday, July 15.

An anonymous source speculated that the selection would be “J.D., Marco or Burgum,” and expressed confidence that “one of those three” would secure the position.

“I would give Burgum and J.D. a little more of an edge than Marco,” the source remarked, adding that while “Marco still has a shot,” both “Burgum and J.D. have an equal shot.”

Another source, identified as a GOP strategist, also suggested that Burgum and Vance were leading the race.

“Who, when, and where will be decided by President Trump,” campaign representative Danielle Alvarez told the Post on Monday.

The Washington Post noted that the only list that truly matters is the one in Trump’s mind, which may still be evolving.

The Washington Post reported that Trump was considering names beyond Burgum, Vance, and Rubio, according to unnamed sources.

“The vice-presidential pick is a very personal thing for the president. The vice president’s job is to basically support the president’s policies and be an advocate for what he wants,” Republican Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina commented.

The Washington Post also mentioned that vetting documents had been requested from Vance, Rubio, Burgum, Scott, Carson, Arkansas Senator Tom Cotton, and Representatives Elise Stefanik of New York and Byron Donalds of Florida.

Trump adviser Jason Miller told Fox News, “It’s almost an embarrassment of riches that there are so many good people. And what President Trump has said is that whoever he does pick needs to be able to step in and do the job on day one.”

When asked if Rubio, Vance, and Burgum were the top three, Miller responded, “President Trump has discussed even more names than that.”

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich stated, according to The New York Times, that even those not chosen would benefit.

Referring to Donalds, Stefanik, Vance, Rubio, Burgum, Scott, and Vivek Ramaswamy, Gingrich said, “Trump has been enormously helpful to these people.”

“They are all bigger and better known than they would have been without Donald Trump,” he added.
