Tucker Carlson Issues Urgent Warning Coup Against Trump

Following a scheduled leadership vote next week by long-serving Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY), conservative commentator Tucker Carlson is urging Trump supporters to contact their senators, advocating for them to support Rick Scott (R-FL) as the new leader.

McConnell, who earlier this year announced he would step down from his role, scheduled a vote for a new leader prior to the swearing-in of senators elected this past Tuesday. Despite numerous changes among senators, including retirements, McConnell arranged for the vote to take place by secret ballot before the new senators are officially seated.

Prominent Republican senators, such as John Thune (R-SD) and Markwayne Mullin (R-OK) – often considered a primary successor to McConnell – have advised the president-elect to “stay out of” the process. Senator John Cornyn (R-TX), who recently supported gun control legislation and hinted that Trump may not be a viable candidate, is also expected to garner notable support.

Several well-known conservative figures have endorsed Senator Scott, who has pledged to advance the Trump agenda unequivocally. However, sources within the Senate indicate his campaign may not withstand the initial round of voting.

On Saturday, Carlson became the latest conservative voice to back Scott, asserting that McConnell was orchestrating a “coup.”

“What the hell is going on in the U.S. Senate? Hours after Donald Trump wins the most conclusive mandate in 40 years, Mitch McConnell engineers a coup against his agenda by calling early leadership elections in the Senate,” Carlson posted on X. “Two of the three candidates hate Trump and what he ran on. One of them, John Cornyn, is an angry liberal whose politics are indistinguishable from Liz Cheney’s. The election is Wednesday, it’s by secret ballot, and it will determine whether or not the new administration succeeds.”

Carlson’s endorsement aligns with other conservatives such as radio host Dan Bongino, and Senators Rand Paul (R-KY), Mike Lee (R-UT), Bill Haggerty (R-TN), and Ron Johnson (R-WI), all of whom support Scott.

Senator Josh Hawley (R-MO), an advocate for Trump’s agenda since 2018, faces criticism after allegations emerged that he might back Cornyn for the leadership role.

As the race for majority leader heats up, McConnell is under fire from critics for allegedly mismanaging campaign funds, which they say led to Republican losses in tight Senate races in Michigan, Wisconsin, and Nevada. McConnell allocated substantial funds to the Maryland Senate campaign in support of Governor Larry Hogan, a Republican critical of Trump, who ultimately lost in the strongly Democratic state.

In Nevada, incumbent Democrat Catherine Cortez Masto narrowly defeated Adam Laxalt in 2022 after McConnell’s Senate Leadership Fund invested minimally in Laxalt’s campaign, even pulling ads for Republican Blake Masters in Arizona. Instead, McConnell directed significant resources toward Lisa Murkowski, a Republican from Alaska who often sides with Democrats.

Addressing the media on Wednesday, McConnell denied that Trump’s influence led to an underwhelming GOP showing, even though Trump’s impact is credited with helping Senator-elect Dave McCormick succeed in Pennsylvania.
