Ukrainian MP Calls For Impeachment Proceedings Against Zelenskyy

A Ukrainian lawmaker has officially called for the impeachment of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, saying the move is crucial to ensuring the country’s future leadership can move forward effectively.
The call for impeachment follows rising backlash against Zelenskyy’s handling of Ukraine’s global reputation, especially after his tense and controversial White House meeting last week with President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance.
Concerns about Zelenskyy’s increasingly authoritarian leadership style have only grown after his refusal to consider a proposed peace agreement and a deal on rare earth minerals with the U.S. These decisions, combined with diplomatic missteps, have left Ukraine more isolated than ever on the world stage.
Because of this, Ukrainian MP Alexander Dubinsky is now urging Parliament to hold an emergency session to begin the impeachment process. Dubinsky accuses Zelenskyy of repeated diplomatic failures, damaging Ukraine’s vital relationship with the United States, and overseeing what he describes as the total breakdown of the nation’s governance.
“Zelensky has not only failed in foreign policy – he has driven the country into a state where anyone who disagrees with his course faces repression,” Dubinsky said in an official statement.
Dubinsky directly blamed Zelenskyy’s stubbornness for pushing Ukraine into a deadlock, arguing that the nation is out of options.
“Zelenskyy has lost,” Dubinsky stated, echoing remarks made previously by Trump. “If he cannot offer a real way out of the crisis, then it is up to us to make fateful decisions.”
In his comments, Dubinsky outlined several reasons why he believes impeachment is necessary, according to Townhall.com:
- A failed foreign policy that has isolated Ukraine internationally and led to the loss of key allies.
- A disastrous war, which he attributes to poor leadership and reckless decision-making.
- Violations of civil liberties and the consolidation of power through repression of opposition voices, persecution of dissenters, and a slide into authoritarianism.

The events of the past hours - the public humiliation of Zelensky at the White House, Trump’s acknowledgment of Zelensky's diplomatic failure, and Ukraine’s loss of unconditional U.S. support - have marked…
This impeachment push comes after Zelenskyy made headlines on Sunday by telling reporters that he was “exchangeable” if Ukraine’s NATO membership could be secured — essentially offering to step down if it guaranteed the country entry into the alliance. During the same remarks, Zelenskyy also indicated openness to signing the minerals agreement with Trump.
“I have said that I am exchanging for NATO membership, then it means I have fulfilled my mission. NATO means I have fulfilled my mission,” Zelenskyy said.
He continued, “To change me, it will not be easy because it is not enough to simply hold elections. You would need to prevent me from participating. And it will be a bit more difficult.”
The following day, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt clarified the situation when questioned about the heated meeting between Trump and Zelenskyy.
During an interview with Fox News host Howard Kurtz, Leavitt stood by Trump, characterizing Zelenskyy’s behavior during the meeting as “antagonistic” and “rude.”
Kurtz countered with a jab at the administration, saying Zelenskyy might have been “irritating” but that “it also seemed like President Trump lost his temper.”
Leavitt strongly disagreed: “I would disagree with that. I think what happened in the Oval Office, I was there, was unfortunately President Zelenskyy came in with a mindset [of] not wanting to negotiate peace.”
She added, “President Zelenskyy was also antagonistic, and frankly, he was rude. He picked a fight with the Vice President of the United States. He repeatedly interrupted President Trump… After three years of funding this brutal war, [Americans] are sick and tired of footing the bill.”
Leavitt also revealed that Zelenskyy had been informed ahead of time that the meeting would focus on a minerals deal and working toward a cease-fire. Kurtz then shifted the conversation to the unusual nature of the public confrontation.
“Yeah, I would just say a ceasefire might leave all the Russian land gains intact,” Kurtz remarked, before asking, “I’ve never seen anything like it, would have happened behind closed doors. So why hold the meeting in front of the cameras?”
Leavitt’s response: “Because President Trump is the most transparent president in history and it was great for the cameras to be in there because the American people and the world were able to see what the president and his team has seen behind the scenes in negotiating with President Zelensky’s team.”
