Vance Jokes That Harris’ ‘Word Salad’ Responses Due To Alleged Drinking

Vice President JD Vance took a swipe at former Vice President Kamala Harris in a recent interview, implying that her "word salads" might be linked to her drinking habits.
During the discussion, Vance drew a contrast between his own approach and that of Harris, even speculating about the nature of her working relationship with former President Joe Biden.
"Well, I don’t have four shots of vodka before every meeting," Vance remarked while speaking with radio host and Daily Caller editor Vince Coglianese in an interview that aired Thursday. "That’s one way I think that Kamala tried to bring herself into the role, is these word salads. I think I would need the help of a lot of alcohol to answer a question the way that Kamala Harris answered questions."
He went on to share his belief that Harris and Biden lacked the same level of trust that he and President Donald Trump share. However, he noted that his assessment was "guesswork" since he rarely interacts with either of them.
"My sense is that there wasn’t a level of trust between Biden and Harris," Vance explained. "She was just less empowered to do her job. Luckily, I’m in a situation where the president trusts me, where if he asks me to do something, he believes it’s going to happen. … I feel empowered in a way that I think a lot of vice presidents haven’t been, but that’s all in the service of accomplishing the president’s vision."
Throughout her time as vice president, Harris often faced ridicule for delivering confusing statements. One notable example from September 2024 saw her declare, "I grew up understanding the children of the community are the children of the community."
Interestingly, Harris, a former Democratic senator from California, is now affiliated with CAA Speakers, a firm that represents high-profile celebrities for speaking engagements, as reported by Fox News.
A representative for Vance verified that the vice president made the comments during the podcast but refrained from providing additional remarks to Fox News.
Despite his pointed criticism, Vance also showed he can laugh at himself. Fox noted that he joked about becoming an internet meme following the intense Oval Office exchange between Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in February.

Vance shared that he enjoys the memes, especially one referencing a Leonardo DiCaprio character pointing at a television screen in the 2019 film "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood." Another favorite features his face edited onto members of the rock band Van Halen.
"I’m a personal fan of Vance Halen, but that’s because I really like the band Van Halen," he said. "So that’s just my personal preferences. I don’t know how it happened or where it came from, but it’s been very, very funny to watch your own face become this meme. It’s made the job a lot more fun, so I encourage people to keep doing it."
Harris recently delivered another speech that critics described as a "word salad" while attempting to inspire the cast of Broadway’s "A Wonderful World: The Louis Armstrong Musical" last month.
She and her husband, Doug Emhoff, attended two Broadway performances, including Gypsy, according to the New York Post.
Following a standing ovation for A Wonderful World, Harris addressed the performers and production team.
"When we think about these moments where we see things that are being taken, but also, let’s see it, you know, nature abhors a vacuum," Harris stated in a clip shared on X.
"Where there’s a vacancy, let’s fill it. Let us know that the reality is that the progress of our nation has been about the expansion of rights, not the restriction of rights," she continued. "We’re seeing a U-turn right now. For those rights to be maintained, which means we have to be vigilant. It’s just the nature of it."
