Vance: Trump Would Reject a Nationwide Abortion Ban
Republican vice-presidential candidate J.D. Vance disclosed that former President Donald Trump would reject a national abortion ban if it were presented during his potential second term.
In an appearance on "Meet The Press," host Kristen Welker inquired, “Abortion is a significant topic on the campaign trail. Democrats have argued that if Donald Trump is re-elected, he will implement a federal abortion ban. Trump claims he won’t, but can you assure us, senator, right here today, that if you and Donald Trump win, there won’t be a federal ban on abortion?”
Vance responded, “I can absolutely commit to that, Kristen. Donald Trump has been as clear as possible on this issue. It’s crucial to take a step back and examine what Donald Trump has said about abortion and how it contrasts with the stance of Kamala Harris and the Democrats. Donald Trump seeks to end the culture war on this matter. If California chooses a different abortion policy than Ohio, then California must respect Ohio’s decision, and Ohio must respect California’s.”
Welker followed up, “Senator Graham has stated he will continue to push for a federal ban. If such legislation were to reach Donald Trump’s desk, would he veto it?”
Vance answered, “I will. He would be very clear; he will not support it.”
Welker pressed further, “So he would veto a federal abortion ban?”
Vance affirmed, “I think he would. He has explicitly said he would.”
Later in the interview, Vance criticized Welker for what he perceived as her constant defense of Vice President Kamala Harris regarding her role in addressing the illegal immigration crisis at the U.S.-Mexico border.
Vance and Welker discussed the influx of millions of illegal aliens crossing the border since Harris was tasked with addressing the “root causes of migration” as the “border czar” to mitigate the crisis.
“We need to address the fundamental issue here, which is that we have 25 million illegal aliens in this country right now because Kamala Harris has refused to do her job,” Vance asserted.
Welker countered, saying, “I have to interject here; DHS reports the number is much lower, closer to eight million. Where do you get the figure of 25 million?”
“Well, I believe the 25 million includes those who should have been deported but weren’t, plus another 12 to 15 million who have entered since Kamala Harris took on this role. But whatever the number is —” Vance attempted to explain.
“DHS disputes that number, just for the record. They estimate it’s closer to eight to ten million, but please continue,” Welker reiterated.
“Fair, but I think there are reasons to believe DHS is underestimating. Regardless of the exact number, it’s far too high, right?” Vance said, addressing the ongoing crisis. “Millions upon millions of illegal immigrants have entered since Kamala became border czar a few years ago. The first step —”
“She was assigned to address the root causes of migration,” Welker interjected.
“Well, the root cause of migration, in my view, Kristen, is that Kamala Harris refuses to do her job as Border Czar,” Vance retorted.
