Watch: Trump Tells Dr. Phil Who's to Blame for Assassination Attempt During Interview - 'I'm the Opponent'
Former President Donald Trump has accused President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris of failing to provide adequate Secret Service protection, which he claims led to the attempted assassination during his July 13 rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.
In an interview with Dr. Phil McGraw, published on Tuesday, Trump stated, “[Biden] always made it very tough for us to have the proper number of Secret Service people. I’d have these massive rallies with 50, 60,000 people or more, and our people were always fighting to get more security, more Secret Service. And he knew that we didn’t have enough.”
Trump continued, “So, you know, when this happened, people would ask, ‘Whose fault is it?’ I think to a certain extent it’s Biden’s fault and Harris’ fault.”
He further expressed concerns about the administration's intent, saying, “I’m the opponent. Look, they were weaponizing government against me. They brought in the whole DOJ to try and get me. They weren’t too interested in my health and safety.” Trump emphasized, “They were always making it — from what I understood, and I could feel it — they were making it very difficult to have proper staffing in terms of Secret Service.”
This situation has raised significant concerns, suggesting that the administration may bear some responsibility for the incident. Over the past two years, the Biden-Harris administration reportedly denied multiple requests for increased Secret Service protection for Trump.
According to a report by The Washington Post, “Top officials at the U.S. Secret Service repeatedly denied requests for additional resources and personnel sought by Donald Trump’s security detail in the two years leading up to his attempted assassination at a rally in Pennsylvania.”
The report indicated that these denials led to “long-standing tensions” between Trump, his aides, and the Secret Service leadership, as Trump’s team feared the agency was not doing enough to ensure his safety.
The Biden-Harris administration’s refusal to provide additional security, coupled with the apparent shortcomings of Trump’s assigned Secret Service detail, are pointed to as contributing factors in the attack on the former president.
In a further controversial move, the administration recently ended Secret Service protection for Robert F. Kennedy Jr. after he suspended his presidential campaign and endorsed Trump. This decision has been criticized as politically motivated, especially given RFK Jr.’s family history of assassinations.
The administration’s actions have drawn sharp criticism, with many questioning its motives and fitness to lead the nation, particularly in light of ongoing issues such as inflation, crime, and border security. Supporters argue that these factors highlight the need for Trump’s leadership to “make America great again.”
