Wyoming Voters Lash Out at Cheney for Supporting Kamala Harris

Former Wyoming Republican Rep. Liz Cheney recently made headlines by endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris for president. Cheney, who has since left the GOP, traveled through Wisconsin—a key battleground state—lending her support to the Democratic ticket.

Over the weekend, Fox News Digital visited Casper, Wyoming, to gauge local opinions on Cheney’s endorsement and the upcoming election. Most Wyoming residents expressed strong disapproval, calling Cheney a “traitor” and a “turncoat” for supporting Harris instead of the Republican candidates.

“I’m not impressed with that at all,” Clark Johnson commented to Fox News Digital when asked for his views on Cheney’s appearance alongside Harris last week in Wisconsin.

“I think it’s ridiculous. I think she’s a traitor to the country,” echoed Gunner Berg, reacting to Cheney’s campaign support for the vice president.

Cheney, a vocal critic of former President Donald Trump, has found herself increasingly at odds with her former party and with Wyoming voters, who supported Trump in both the 2016 and 2020 elections. Cheney, the daughter of former Vice President Dick Cheney, is not expected to regain popularity in a state projected to vote Republican again.

The sentiment in Casper was largely against Cheney, with many expressing doubts about her ability to regain a political foothold in Wyoming.

“I’m definitely not a fan, and it definitely kind of turned some tables there,” remarked Dillon Sigman, adding that he doesn’t see Cheney successfully running for office in Wyoming again.

One local, identified as “Ralph,” criticized Cheney’s move, saying, “I think Liz Cheney, who originally was a Wyoming person that moved to Connecticut and then returned to Wyoming wearing cowboy blue jeans and a cowboy rodeo belt buckle, has completely flipped and become a turncoat. Liz has gone totally Democratic and appears to be down the road of the DEI inclusion and all the other dysfunctional things that are going on in her government.”

“I support her decision to campaign for whoever she chooses. However, I do not think she is a voice for the Wyoming people. The majority of people I know do not back Kamala Harris or that campaign,” said Alicia Kellch to Fox Digital.

Kellch mentioned that many of Cheney’s initial supporters felt “sold out once they got her in office and realized what her true intentions were.” She also believes Cheney would struggle to win re-election in Wyoming if she maintains her current stance.

Another local, Chuck Kucera, labeled Cheney a “backstabber” and joked that a Harris campaign event is “probably a good place for her.”
